Just a quick note: I got the hot-burn travel time between the Bonnie Prince Charlie and Greenleaf factored, and updated the timeline information above accordingly. I've also updated the Working Timeline document as well, and will tackle the Rim Rum planning document over the weekend, as well as see about updating "Collecting Strays".

Going a bit deeper now that I have some time.

Another fear Chang will have is that he might have been wrong to trust Cooper all along, and that she's not nearly as stable as he thought. She seems to have this instant-bone-deep trust in the man, which she hasn't shown to anybody else that Chang has ever seen-- obviously she trusts Hoss that much, but that's a long-standing relationship. Chang will wonder if a) there was actually more between Cooper and Carver than this one-night stand, and that Cooper has lied to them all for some reason, or b) based on nothing more than a one-night stand, Cooper developed an extremely unrealistic attachment to this guy.

Once a few days go by without Carver and Cooper jumping in the sack, and Cooper continuing to be her usual self except for trusting Mr. Stone-Cold Killer, those fears will lessen but not entirely go away. During this time Chang will not talk to Cooper about the situation, and if he hears anybody else planning to do so, he may try to dissuade them or at least get them to wait.

During those first few days, Chang hasn't specifically decided to leave the ship. What's going through his mind is more of an "Oh crap, this psycho could kill me with his left eyebrow, danger, do not remain in the vicinity" sort of thing. He's aware that his first impressions may have been wrong, but if he doesn't get significant evidence of that, then at the first fork in the road Chang is going whichever way Carver doesn't go, even if that means leaving the ship. If he gets the chance, he will talk to Abby privately, and possibly Halo or Sully too, in case they're thinking the same; maybe if enough of them threaten to leave, Cooper will see sense and put Carver off instead. And if she does let them all go, they'll be able to pool their resources as they look for their next gig.

After a few more days of sorting out loot from the Lucky Day, though, Chang will be much less eager to leave the ship; it would mean leaving behind some pretty cool toys (did I mention what a geek he is?), and besides, by then his more extreme fears will have settled down. There may not need to be anything big and dramatic to finally convince Chang to stay. especially if it turns out he would be the only one to be leaving.

Let me see if I can eloquently say here what I told Whitney and Ron in person the other day...

There are two "Bills" (aka 'Halo')

The Bill that everyone sees on a day-in, day-out basis is a fairly laid-back kind of guy that likes to enjoy what's available at the time (i.e. company, good food, an engrossing book, a riveting board game, etc.). He generally likes most people and most people generally like him. He's gregarious, easy-going... personable. His mild paranoia only extends to his personal legal status.

The second Bill is 'Halo' Bill, the pilot. When he's given a piloting job to do, he's down-and-dirty, no-nonsense, nothing in the 'Verse is going to distract him from doing the job that needs to be done. "Carver who? Don't bother me, I'm trying to fly through a frozen herd of cattle in orbit around this moon."

So when everyone but Halo sees the drama in the tube and talk starts to worm it's way up to the cockpit, Second Bill doesn't care one whit. First Bill, on the other hand, he's not quite sure what to think. Gun dogs and pilots rarely intermingle and rarely mix when they do. But he doesn't go out of his way to find more info, and especially doesn't go out of his way to have a talk with Carver.

Sticking with the 'Two Bills' metaphor, when Bill is out and about doing non-flying duties elsewhere on the ship (or anywhere else), he talks up a storm, but not about anything of consequence. Small talk. Inane subjects. Nothing that really matters. he certainly won't talk about Carver. If asked, he'll shrug and pop off with some non-committal, flippant remark.

On the bridge is another story. This is where 'Halo' resides and rules the 'Verse. 'First Bill' is still here, but 'Halo' will emerge to discuss heavy topics in the comfort of a pilot's chair. If Cooper, Sully, or Chang, Fatima, Abby or Tilly, come up and want to discuss something 'heavy', 'Halo' will listen and provide reasoned input. That input will of course be flavored by his position as a premier pilot, but he'll give a subject the consideration it is due.

So when asked about Carver and/or Cooper (even by Cooper herself), 'Halo' will tell it as he sees it. He's not certain the captain hasn't completely lost her marbles (he'll tell her so in as many words, if she asks), and this Carver fellow, well, the monicker does seem appropriate, don't it? He's not about to jump ship. The idea won't even have crossed his mind. But as time goes on, if tensions rise, he may have to re-evaluate his status. If tensions diminish, though... well, I still have a ship that needs to be flown. Don't I?

Fatima mostly feels like she's caught between a rock and a hard place. She even feels a bit of resentment towards Cooper for creating this situation but most of her antipathy is aimed squarely at Carver. Mind you, not that anyone would be able to point out fear/dislike/mistrust in her actions. She remains quiet, perfectly polite, and hard-working. But she is upset and nervous all over again. She had just started to ease into things and feel some cautious pleasure and safety; she had even started to talk to the other crew members and think of them as possible friends? Maybe. Now there is this new, big, violent unknown in the midst and she is going to shrink back into her shell. She won't say a peep to Cooper, though. There is a chance she will say something to Halo during one of their change-overs and she will privately hope it gets passed on to Cooper or Sully. She knows that she is supposed to tell Cooper directly but, given the arms-open way Cooper took Carver on, she doesn't trust the situation and doesn't want to risk being kicked off the ship. She believes the ship, Carver or no, is still the safest place for her. Moving targets are harder to hit.

Her behavior will be very much the way it was when she first boarded but she will bounce back a bit faster this time. Her opinion of Carver will improve as she watches him work hard and without complaint. If he manages a coup of a save or a grand gesture, it will change faster but the key to Fatima's opinion is always slow and steady. Just pray he doesn't make any sudden moves in her direction.

Shame, too. She had just stopped wearing the veil and letting people see her eyes and was thinking of ditching all of the rest of the garb. Not happening at the moment now!
